Microplates Launch a new product Microlute SLE – Supported Liquid Extraction

Microplates have just launched a new product called Microlute SLE – Supported Liquid Extraction for Porvair Sciences. With this new product created by Microplates, you can extract a variety of acidic, basic, and neutral analytes from various biological or aqueous samples, done very quickly using a robust method of liquid extraction.
This method of extraction is done so quickly with the help of Microlute SLE. The Microlute SLE 96 well plates and cartridges use selectively sourced diatomaceous earth (DE) as the solid support. This means it can increase the absorption of the aqueous solutions, which results in a more straightforward recovery of analytes from samples, and also a greater reproducibility.
There is a wide range of features associated with the Microlute SLE product. It has a quick and simple recovery due to the minimal number of steps needed, so you’ll have a quick clean up, while also securing over 99% recovery of contaminant-free analytes, so little injuries are involved.
The MicroluteTM SLE can process up to 96 samples, so if you are interested in a product like this for your laboratory, this is perfect for laboratory automated workflows. One ideal feature of the Microlute SLE is its efficient removal of proteins with a low risk of contamination, so you’ll have clean samples and also less cleaning-up time, a great bonus if you purchase this product.
Microplates consider this product to be much better than LLE as there are minimal requirements involved with the Microlute SLE such as no inversions, no shaking and no pipetting. With standard liquid extraction, there tend to be sample handling issues; however, not with Microlute SLE.
The method of its sample preparation enables the user to have an effective and efficient workflow from its reliability to its ease of clean-up samples for chromatography analysis. So, how does the Microlute SLE work exactly? Well, Microplates suggest you add your sample on to the plate or cartridge, wait until complete absorption of the aqueous solution has taken place and you can then ‘elute’ analytes in your preferred solvent.
The MicroluteTM SLE is available in 96 well plate and cartridge formats with a 200µl (and 400µl) maximum load volume(s). This sample preparation product is suitable for plasma, serum, oral fluids, urine or other aqueous-based solutions. For more information about this new range from Microplates, or if you have any queries about an immiscible solvent or emulsion formation, get in touch with Microplates today, they will be happy to assist you.
The MicroluteTM SLE – Supported Liquid Extraction is another new product offered by Microplates, alongside the Microlute PPpp plate, both of which can be found online at https://www.microplates.com/microlute-sle/. You can find these products under sample preparation, and there is a detailed description of the products also. If you’re interested, you can add the amount you want of a particular product for enquiry. The SLE is very easy to use, and it is an excellent method of liquid extraction, so, if you’re looking for a product like this, consider the MicroluteTM SLE, it has several features, and it can be used with vacuum and positive pressure systems too.

Microplates Launch a New Product, the Microlute™ Protein Precipitation Plates

Microplates have just launched a new product, the Microlute™ Protein Precipitation Plates. During biological sample preparation in the lab, the biological samples commonly contain proteins that interfere with downstream applications so Microplates created the Microlute™ Protein Precipitation Plates. This product uses the CRASH method, meaning the protein is denatured with acetonitrile and the flocculant filtered out, therefore allowing 96 samples to be handled at one given time.
Microplates explain that the protein ‘crashes’ out of solution. Hence, the reason the new product is called protein precipitation, is that the protein precipitates directly in each well when acetonitrile is added.
As mentioned, this is a new product offered by Microplates, and with this product comes many benefits. One main advantage is that it can solve all common problems associated with the CRASH technique of protein clean-up.
One common problem is that there can be leakage involved with samples. But with the protein precipitation filter plate, its novel dual filter (also known as the frit) and hydrophobically treated matrix, there will be no leakage of the sample through the plate before the application of vacuum.
As well as this new product they are offering, Microplates have optional drain cap and top cap mats available for those wishing to use vortex sample mixing.
Microplates have three available protein precipitation plates on their site, and the first PP plate is the P3 Protein Precipitation Plate High Efficiency (untreated frits) packed individually rigid shell. The well shape is square, and the volume is 2ml, and it is made of polypropylene.
Then you have the P3 Protein Precipitation Plate packed individually in a rigid shell and the P3 Protein Precipitation Plate – bulk packed in a bag of five, no individual shells. Each one of these PP filter plates is made up of Vyon HDPE for its filter material, and it has a long filter drip director. However, the first comes in rigid shells, whereas the bulk packed one consists of a bag of five with no individual shells.
Microplates have even provided a video about biological sample preparation with the Protein Precipitation Plate P3 in the Porvair Sciences research facility. This video is handy as it gives an overview of the new product by preparing a sample of serum for analysis by LCMS, and this requires a professional to remove some of the protein that would usually block up the columns in the liquid chromatograph, and they do this with the new PP plate.
From the video, you will see how quick and efficient Microplates new product is at helping you prepare your biological samples for analysis by LCMS.
You must get in touch with Microplates today and enquire about their new product – Protein Precipitation Plates. The Microlute™ Protein Precipitation Plates was created to provide you with the most benefits and to avoid any leakage of your samples in the lab.
Check out the pp filer plate online at https://www.microplates.com/protein-precipitation-plates/ where you can read more about each PP filter plate, download protocol, application note and also watch the uploaded video about the new product. Porvair Sciences Manufacture Microplate Products Including Deep Well Polypropylene Microplates

Porvair Sciences manufacture many microplate products, including Deep Well Polypropylene Microplates as part of their storage collection on the Microplates website. Porvair Sciences provide microplate solutions for all applications, particularly their sample storage microplates.
The storage collection plate – the deep well polypropylene microplate is a sample storage plate used for sample storage in life science laboratories. An essential aspect of the manufacture of these plates to note is the selection of ‘clean raw materials for injection moulding.’ Another benefit of this sample storage plate is its suitability for storage because of the low-binding characteristics of the material – polypropylene. It can accommodate larger working volumes, and the proteins and DNA will not adhere to PP; therefore, it gives a complete sample recovery in the laboratory.
Although, according to Porvair Sciences, all grades of polypropylene are not the same. This is about the injection moulding grades of polypropylene which can have high concentrations of chemicals, therefore, aiding the moulding process. It helps with the production of plates in a much quicker way, and it also lowers costs. The only flaw that has been mentioned by the professionals about these particular moulding grades of polypropylene is that the sample may not be fully functional as it is stored for an extended period.
This can happen when compounds are stored as solutions in solvents such as methanol or DMSO because they can extract from the polypropylene base material. Fortunately, Porvair Sciences has published an analysis of its own and other manufacturer’s plates, with MS traces, this allows individuals to compare the good and bad.
You can also find online as part of the storage collection, the deep well microplate centrifuge and genogrinder accessories such as the centrifuge support plate. These silicone impact support plates are designed to fit into the skirt of the deep well plates. This then allows the plate to be used in a centrifuge without the risk of the plate distorting, cracking or breaking, causing the well to leak.
The 96-well square plates are also part of the deep well polypropylene storage collection which was created for the interchange of plates simpler in automated systems. The plates have the same geometry, and the only variable is the excellent depth. These plates are designed specifically for seed and leaf genomic studies.
The other plate is the 384-well, and Porvair Sciences has a selection of 384-well polypropylene plates to suit most applications. This is because all of them are made from ‘pre-tested polypropylene in Class 100000 cleanrooms.’
Then you have the high-volume deep well microplates which are available on the microplate’s website. On it, you will find a range of large volume plates that are suitable for each specific laboratory’s requirements as they ensure only the best quality microplates. Porvair allows large volumes of samples to be transported in recognised ANSI/SLAS format microplates, and this gives you greater automation.
Porvair Sciences microplates supply many high-volume microplates, and the deep well polypropylene microplates, in particular, are the best sample storage microplates. Porvair Sciences only choose clean, raw materials in the manufacture of these plates, confirming how dedicated and thorough the team are at Porvair Sciences.
If you would like more information about the deep well polypropylene microplates for your laboratory, you can read more about the plates online at https://www.microplates.com/storage-collection/, or you can contact a member of the Porvair Sciences team by phone on +44 (0)1978 661144.

Porvair Sciences Develop a Range of Units for Microplate Sealing

Porvair Sciences has developed a range of units to meet the needs of ‘low, medium and high throughput laboratories for microplate sealing’. Fortunately, you can choose from many Microplate closures and Microplate sealing units online such as adhesive sealing film, heat sealers, heat sealing film, mat caps, mat cappers, and universal lids.
For instance, adhesive sealing film, how would this be useful in the laboratory? Well, adhesive seals have easy-peel tabs at each short side which makes it easier to seal microplates for transport and most importantly to prevent contamination and evaporation.
Porvair Sciences adhesive films come in a variety of formats, allowing for most applications. You can purchase the adhesive seals in a SealPlate adhesive film for PP or PS plates, and you will receive a pack of 100 with a seal thickness of 110um. Other sealing films available from the Microplates website include the ThermalSeal Standard PCR or PCR Sterile film, and many more.
Another unit available at Porvair Sciences is the heat sealers, specifically the thermal plate sealers. This is a very useful unit compared to the others developed, and this is because heat sealing has become the most popular option in laboratories as it creates an airtight and chemically-resistant seal without complication adhesives being applied to a plate. Porvair Sciences meets the needs of laboratories with this unit of heat sealing.
Similarly, with the MicroSeal Manual Thermal Plate Sealer, which is compact and easy to use, it is also quick and straightforward. It protects precious samples from evaporation and contamination when performing PCR or during storage.
A unique feature of the MicroSeal is that is has a built-in thermostat to prevent overheating. It is the best unit for manual sealing of PCR plates and microplates, as it also has a pre-set temperature of 170ºC, perfect for most common sealing applications, and it even has a LED status display for power and heating.
For heat sealing films, Porvair Sciences has an extensive range of seals and foils for thermal and adhesive sealing of microplates. They also have re-usable cap mats which are available for friction sealing of plates.
Also, foils and seals for the MicroSeal and MiniSeal Plus are supplied by Microplates, and they have cut sheets with a measurement of 125mm x 78mm, and they come in packs of 100. Also, for the automated TriSeal system, these come in roll form, and sample rolls are 5m long, and production rolls are much longer around 500m or 610m long, which is a substantial length to seal around 5-6,000 plates.
According to Porvair Sciences, all of their heat seals have a sealing strength of -80ºC to +120ºC, are resistant to DMSO and TFA as well as most other solvents and will seal Polypropylene plates. Porvair recommends Polystyrene plates to only use Clear Seal.
So, it is clear that Porvair Sciences have a vast range of units for microplate sealing from adhesive sealing film to heat sealers, mat caps, a 96 well plate seal, and many more. You can browse through these products on the Microplates website, and each unit contains a product description if you would like to know more them and how they meet the needs of laboratories. Call the Porvair Sciences team today on +44 (0)1978 661144 if you have any queries about the units available online, or you can go online and check them out for yourself at https://www.microplates.com/microplate-closures-and-sealing/.

Microplates Supply Porvair Evaporators which Remove Solvent Evaporation from Microplates

Microplates supply Porvair Evaporators which are designed to remove solvent evaporation from microplates before analysis in storage buffer. These evaporators give significant throughput advantages to laboratories looking to optimise microplate sample preparation productivity.
According to Microplates, it is faster than centrifugal evaporation. Not only that, but you will notice significant increases in sample throughput, which are achieved through this advanced evaporator head technology and innovative manifold design. It directly injects heated nitrogen into each well of the microplate simultaneously.
The evaporators have been designed to be simple to install, operate and maintain. Installation requires only connection to a gas supply or cylinder and mains electricity.
Safety of operation is ensured as the CE marked compact units fit into all fume cupboards. Not suitable for high boiling solvents such as DMSO and water.
At Porvair Sciences, you have a choice of the MiniVap and MiniVap Gemini, which may be operated with a supply of clean, dry compressed air in place of nitrogen, if the chemistry allows.
For instance, the MiniVap just mentioned above, is used for low usage research and development departments. This means the work is carried out where a low number of individual plates or vials need drying. It is a straightforward and easy design that can be operated without any hassle.
One benefit of this Porvair evaporator is that it has superb control, so there are quicker drying times compared to other methods.
You can also purchase the Blowdown Evaporator Ultravap Mistral from Porvair Sciences. Again, this is a great design that allows the removal of solvent evaporation from microplates. With the Ultravap plan, it moves with the rotating arm of the centrifuge and gives you a fully flat profile.
It stays in a better position to be able to link with your robot. So, it is no surprise that Porvair Sciences have been in business for more than 20 years producing microplates.
Then you have the 96 well filter plate available on the Porvair Sciences website. These microplates include the 96 well plates which are used in their purest form to remove particulate matter from liquid. Either the particulate matter or the filtrate is needed for further study.
Porvair Sciences has many plates including the 96 well filtration plate which allows for the majority of filtration applications, and the range consists of 96-well, 800l, microplates which contain a choice of glass fibre, nylon, PVDF or polyethylene filtration materials.
Porvair Sciences even have ‘optimised filter plates’ for applications such as cell harvesting, DNA separations, binding studies, Plasmid isolation, general filtration and sample clean-up.
So, if you are interested in Porvair Evaporators or even the 96 well plates and 96 well reservoir, Microplates has you covered. Microplates have a range of Blowdown Evaporators and 96 well filter plates for you to choose from. You can browse the selection of evaporators and 96 well filter plates online and read about each product description to decide which is the best one and most suitable one for your research.
You can visit Microplates website today at https://www.microplates.com and click on the filtration plates tab on the menu, and a drop-down menu will display the range of 96 well filter plates. You can also get in touch with Porvair Sciences by phone on +44 (0)1978 661144 or by email at patricia.deeside@gmail.com.

Microplates Advise you on the Right Assay and the Best Tools for Analysis

Microplates advise you on how to choose the right assay and the best tools for analysis. Microplates recommend that choosing assay microplates optimised for the reagents you will be using is key for obtaining quality data.

Another important tip from Microplates is that, when it comes to selecting assay plates, you usually have a choice of clear, opaque and transparent. What you must consider before choosing between the different glass-bottom assay plate options is their reflective property.

For instance, ask yourself, do you need opaque assay plate walls to prevent well-to-well cross talk? Microplates consider it is best if you are opting for solid opaque plates if your assay involves scintillation, fluorescence and luminescence.

When it comes to selecting assay plates, you usually have a choice of clear, opaque and transparent. The most important thing to consider before choosing between the different glass-bottom assay plate options is their reflective property. Do you need opaque assay plate walls to prevent well-to-well cross talk?

The Porvair Krystal series clear bottom plates are now recognised as industry-leading tools for Pharma drug discovery and screening. Their standard clear polystyrene bottom plates have bases 0.4mm thick. They are moulded from highly polished tools to reduce flow lines, artefacts and scratches, guaranteeing good results with all types of bottom-reading instruments.

For the more modern demanding confocal readers, Porvair Glass Bottom plates have been shown by leading research institutes to be unsurpassed for flatness, linearity and optical clarity. Our sparkling pure borosilicate glass is 175m thick with a flatness tolerance across the plate of +/- 15m, ensuring superb crisp images every time.

Microplates of course supply a range of assay plates from solid clear and solid bottom to Krystal Clear Bottom Opaque Sides, Krystal UV Transparent, Krystal UV Solid Quartz, Bacti-Growth plates and deep well plates.

The quartz assay plates, particularly the Krystal UV Solid Quartz, is available in black and clear. The Black cell culture plates are high for fluorescence assays. With less opaque surface to reflect the light, clear-bottom assay plates have lower luminescent signal intensity, but they are the go-to 96 well assay plate choice for absorbance assays.

Whereas the clear bottom plates are also useful if you wish to view the cells before the assay; however, we wouldn’t recommend these cell culture microplates if you are using a bottom-reading instrument, as the clear bottom may lead to increased levels of well-to-well cross talk.

So, a piece of advice from Microplates is to avoid this issue when conducting an assay with clear glass bottom assay plates, and we advise researchers to use top reading instruments whose detector can minimise the amount of light which leaks from the well by interfacing more closely with it. If your assay involves UV wavelength measurement (e.g. nucleic acid quantitation), you can also get special UV-transparent microplates.

If you are interested in finding out which is the right assay plate for you, then contact Microplates today for more information by phone on +44 (0)1978 661144 or by email at patricia.deeside@gmail.com. If you are not sure which product is suitable for you, then you can go online to their website at https://www.microplates.com/assay-plates/ and read through the range of assays supplied by Microplates.

Microplates Porvair Evaporators Remove Solvent Evaporation From Microplates Before Analysis

Microplates Porvair Evaporators can remove solvent evaporation from microplates before analysis or reconstitution in a storage buffer. According to Microplates, these evaporators give significant throughput advantages to laboratories looking to optimise microplate sample preparation productivity.

It is also faster than centrifugal evaporation, significant increases in sample throughput are achieved through advanced evaporator head technology and innovative manifold design, which directly injects heated nitrogen into each well of the microplate simultaneously.

The evaporators have been designed to be simple to install, operate and maintain. Installation requires only connection to a gas supply or cylinder and mains electricity. Safety of operation is ensured as the CE marked compact units fit into all fume cupboards. However, it is not suitable for high boiling solvents such as DMSO and water.

So, the evaporators – The MiniVap and MiniVap Gemini may be operated with a supply of clean, dry compressed air in place of nitrogen, if the chemistry allows. An in-line gas filter must be used in this case.

There are also other evaporation products such as; the Blowdown Evaporator Ultravap Levante and the Blowdown Evaporator Ultravap Mistral.

The Ultravap Levante brings you many of the benefits associated with the flagship evaporator, the Ultravap Mistral, yet in an affordable, automation-ready package.

There is no in/out plate shuttle, but they are still fully programmable and easy to control from a robot liquid handler. It can also be fitted with the ducted fan fume extraction option, similar to the Mistral, and shares most of the software features including full-colour touch screen, stores alphanumerically named programmes (5 programmes), multi-step evaporation programmes (3 steps) and full administrative control (user or admin levels).

Microplates also state that the ‘removable acrylic splash guard protects the user and ensures efficient removal of solvent vapour from the evaporation table, while the solid-state power supply enables the unit to run from either 110v or 220v without an external transformer.’ There is no CAN bus control on the Levante.

The other important evaporator from Microplates is the Blowdown Evaporator Ultravap Mistral. The Ultravap Mistral from Porvair Sciences is designed to remove the traditional laboratory ‘bottleneck’ of solvent evaporation from microplates. Fully automating the dry-down step has always been impossible because it is difficult to interface liquid handling robots with traditional centrifugal type evaporators.

The Ultravap Mistral design, by dispensing with the rotating arm of the centrifuge and offering a fully flat front profile, overcomes this problem and is much better positioned to link with your robot. With more than 20 years’ experience in producing good quality deep microplates, Porvair Sciences has thoroughly researched the problems of drying down organic solvents in plates. This has led to the ultimate microplate blowdown evaporator the Ultravap Mistral.

The Ultravap Mistral can be operated with a supply of clean, dry compressed air in place of nitrogen, that is if the chemistry allows for it. According to Microplates, the new Ultravap Mistral is the latest development of Porvair Sciences’ highly successful Ultravap line of blowdown evaporators and sample concentrators.

Get in touch with Microplates today if you are interested in a nitrogen evaporator, nitrogen evaporation or you would like to know more about evaporating solvents using nitrogen itself. You can email the team at Microplates at patricia.deeside@gmail.com, or you can go online to their website and their page about evaporators and read more at https://www.microplates.com/evaporators/.
